The Salar de Uyuni Bolivia
The Salar de Uyuni is located in southern Bolivia at an altitude of approximately 3,656 metres (11,995 feet) above sea level. Covering more than 10,000 square kilometres, it is the world's largest salt flat, formed by the evaporation of prehistoric lakes. The surface consists of a thick salt crust with a distinctive hexagonal pattern and is also one of the world's largest known reserves of lithium. During the wet season, a shallow layer of water covers parts of the salt flat, while in the dry season the exposed salt crust extends across the landscape.
